Juanita Hagberg paints watercolors of her experiences and emotional responses to nature using the synthetic surface, Yupo.
Following a career as a public school teacher, Juanita became a self-taught watercolorist. She paints "en plein air," and often develops those paintings into more abstract works.
As an intuitive and experimental painter, she suggests the intricacy and complexity of the natural world without replicating it. Hagberg's paintings have been in many juried shows and featured in a variety of publications.
Juanita teaches workshops and gives demonstrations about painting watercolor on Yupo. Always wanting to portray how something feels, rather than how it looks, she invites the viewer to see the range of watercolor. Hagberg is continually exploring the possibilities of using abstraction to convey her reactions to nature.
