Along with many other artists, my inspiration arises from observing nature and man's gentle intrusion into it — the angular slope of an old barn or boat, the reflections in a quiet stream, the changing light of a pastoral scene. I enjoy painting in oil on location with small groups of plein air painters.

Influenced by the Impressionists' use of sensuous layers of color, I observe the grace and beauty of nature, letting her be my teacher — capturing a vignette in time and conveying a feeling of joy and celebration. I seek untouched retreats or secluded urban niches to catch the excitement of light, color, and dynamic compositions.

Painting for me involves the whole experience of being within a peaceful environment. I delight in the subtleties the seasons impose on California's mountains; in the variations of golden hues in the rolling hills. My most recent challenge has been to enjoy painting pure landscape with only the hint of human presence. I seek to encompass the viewer with my insights of the changing landscape.

I hope you find joy and discovery in my images.
