My art experience started in my twenties with sumie and Japanese calligraphy in Tokyo. When our children got older, I studied at Diablo Valley College and UC Berkeley. My fine art studies in the colleges included watercolor, printmaking, acrylic and oil.
Whether the painting is a realistic landscape or one with a variety of lines for pattern painting, these days I work in oil. My series of pattern paintings is the result of finding myself as an artist who shares the Japanese heritage.
Since learning a glazing technique, it has been my favorite way of painting, especially for cosmic worlds and pattern paintings. Applying 10 to 20 thin, transparent layers creates satisfying luminosity and vibrancy. Its a painstaking process in oil, but I love it for its deep transparent effect.
I have been a member of the East Bay Artists Guild, Lamorinda Arts Alliance and Valley Art Gallery. Through these organizations, I have participated in solo and group shows in the Bay Area.
Art communicates emotion.
