Carol Grootheart Lutz
I worked for almost 30 years in the Graphic Arts Department of the University of California's Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. Retiring gave me time to pursue my love of drawing and painting. Not having a formal art education I have taken classes in drawing and composition, portraiture and botanical drawing, working in pencil, pen and ink, pastel, colored pencil and watercolor.
I am active in and am a Master Signature member in the California Watercolor Association.
I paint using only the three primary colors, red, yellow and blue. The colors are painted on one layer at a time, in as many as 30 or more thin tints of color. Allowing each to dry before adding the next color layer. In a few of my paintings I use the Pointillism technique, still using only the three primary colors.
