I have painted for fifty years and still attempt to paint every day. It is my therapy and my joy. I try to convey the loveliness of the simple things we pass by every day, but don’t take time to appreciate. It is good that I am a California artist because I paint nature enhanced by sunlight.
Lately, my subject matter has been: sunlight through leaves highlighting the veins, cacti glowing with sun and darkened by shadow, and fruits and vegetables as they are displayed at the farmer’s markets.
I work in layers, from a loose impressionistic drawing, with each layer deepening the color and refining the details. I try to finish with highly detailed focal points and looser, painterly edges. I paint in oil on canvas and linen.
My largest commission and work was five 8ft x 5ft paintings depicting the “Communion of Saints” for St. Paschal Baylon Church.
My awards have increased since I have been paintings botanicals.
