Marge Barta Atkins
Castro Valley artist, Marge Barta Atkins, has always been interested in visual art, but she chose music as her outlet for many years. While teaching English and typing in public school in the mid-seventies, she turned to painting.
Atkins took art classes at California State University, Hayward, studying painting with Raymond Saunders, Mel Ramos and Grace Munakata. She took all the art major classes, extra art history and painting classes, and spent a month in Florence, Italy, studying drawing, painting and Renaissance art history with California State University art instructor Joseph Pugliese.
Atkins has won many awards. Her art can be seen at Valley Art Gallery. She was guest artist at Moraga Art Gallery in August/September 2015 and at the Firehouse Art Center (Lobby Gallery) in Pleasanton in June/July 2016. She has been a member of Artists 7 since 2000, a group who has shown together in galleries and open studios.
